Jackie Velasquez-Ross is a Design & Research Recruiting Leader based in Oakland, California. Most recently she built teams at Twitter.

She believes in the power of design, the impact of research, the art of recruiting, and the talented people she’s met along the way.

When not building teams, Jackie’s chasing spirited twins around the Bay, drinking strong coffee, and enjoying life.

JVR Consulting

2016 – Until…

After living in SF for a few years, starting my recruiting career, and meeting startup founders I was asked to help build out early stage companies. It was wild, hard, and so much fun. Eventually, JVR Consulting turned into partnering with founders, leaders, and recruiting teams to build recruiting systems, operations, and employer branding so they can intentionally scale.

If you’re interested in working together, give me a shout.

Twitter

2021 – 2022

When I joined Twitter my team was 4 people. Then 7 and all of sudden 2. It was rough.

Most recently, I scaled the function to a 8 person dream team. I had the privilege of coaching and making space for an incredible team of globally distributed recruiters that hired across design, research, content design, strategy, product management and program management.

We partnered with all levels of leadership to fill the coolest, niche, and impactful roles on the platform everyone has an opinion on.

InVision

2018 - 2021

Working at one of the first fully remote and distributed companies before it was necessary, was truly a treat. This group of smart and empathetic people hold a special place in my heart.

I worked across the entire company, hiring junior folks to VPs, and created long lasting friendships.

Meta

2017 – 2018

It was called Facebook and Instagram when I was there.

I hired design leaders to work on Messenger, a bunch of new initiatives…and I hired the person who is responsible for the monetization of Instagram. I also made key hires across Facebook and Messenger. What a time!

2013 – 2017

Everyone has a California dream, right? I moved to California to become a writer. I ended up working the front desk for a well known advertising agency and fell into recruiting. I got a lot of free food and drinks, and some beautiful portraits taken.

Another Life

Pre San Francisco

Your girl worked retail, ran after kids at summer camps, interned at PR agencies, v-logged and blogged, dabbled in photography, did makeup for fashion shows, built websites on xanga, customized myspaces, and worked my way through college by running a luxury spa.

I also advise designers, researchers and leaders on their career paths

I like to support women, people of color, the LGBTQ+ community and other under-supported folks get into design & research, become better at their craft, and get paid their worth. I do this via mentorship, portfolio reviews, referrals, and compensation negotiation.

Sometimes folks ask me to give talks on my life, recruiting, design, and all the things in between. Reach out if you’re interested in having me on your podcast or panel.
